I am new in the country and just obtained a social security number a couple of weeks back. I have applied for 3 credit cards in the last 3 – 4 weeks and all applications have been denied because of limited credit history or not enough information on file. My wife is a U.S. citizen and has several U.S. credit cards.
How can I build credit if they won’t give a credit card to start with?

go to your bank and ask if they will issue you one or see if you can get a copy of one of your wife’s cards.

Get a secured credit card. You have to put a deposit on it as a security to obtain one.It will help you establish credit.
Capital One has secured credit cards.

You have a number of options. The first would be to get a secured credit card. This is a card that is backed by an upfront deposit. Essentially, you give your bank a small amount (2- 5 hundred dollars usually) and they will issue a line of credit. If you default on that line of credit, the amount owed will be taken out of the amount you have pre-deposited.
