How does a college grad get a credit card with no credit history and no employment history? Can someone cosign to get one?
No one told me you needed a credit history to get a card and experience to get a job (only a degree for getting a job)

You can easily get one. First, try applying at some department store or regular store (Old Navy, Macy’s, etc.) to build up your credit. Then, you can try to get a regular one.

Well, the best way to approach this problem is get one of those prepaid credit cards. Shop around. One card wanted a $35 deposit, not refundable, before they gave you a credit card.

    What’s in your wallet?

You can apply for a secured credit card. Basically, you give the bank a thousand bucks and they give you a card with a 500 dollar limit. But if you miss payment, they will not draw from the deposit, it will reflect on your credit rating as a missed payment. AND when they return the deposit, you get no interest, just your thousand bucks – the bank keeps the interest. Also, they will never change it to an unsecured credit card. You will have to reapply when you have an employment record and a better credit score. Aren’t banks awesome?! *grumble grumble*

First of all, you made a big boo-boo when you made it all the way through college without have a job. To answer your question, DON’T GET ONE! A credit card is a loan against your future income. If you don’t have an income, you have no reason to get a credit card.

Don’t get a credit card if you don’t have a job. It will become a bitch to pay back, trust me.. I would know. I figured I’d be able to handle a $14.95 minimum payment per month, then I lost my job and now I’m $200 in the hole and Chase calls my house at least 10 times a day. It gets rather annoying. So you don’t want to put yourself in that position.
